First Look: Cameron shows 3-D 'Titanic' footage

James Cameron took his "2.99-D" version of "Titanic" out into open water Friday.
The director of the Oscar-winning 1997 film and producer Jon Landau previewed 18 minutes of assorted footage that has been converted into 3-D for next year's rerelease of the film. The mastermind behind "Avatar" joked that it wasn't fully 3-D because "Titanic" wasn't filmed in 3-D. He was quick to note, though, that most other converted 3-D films are just "2.4-D."
"I think it looks spectacular," said Cameron. "If I had 3-D cameras at the time and there had been 3-D theaters at the time, I certainly would have shot it in 3-D. It's also just a way of reinventing the concept of a rerelease and getting people to come back to theaters and commit that three hours and 15 minutes to go through the experience again."
The footage shown during the invite-only presentation at Paramount Studios included eight scenes, spanning from Kate Winslet's well-to-do Rose looking up at the Titanic for the first time to the moment when the stern dramatically plunges into the sea at a 90-degree angle, as well as the iconic scene of Rose and Leonardo DiCaprio's drifter Jack embracing on the bow.
In the scenes previewed Friday, the 3-D footage showcased the conversion's visual reinvigoration of the existing material, especially during moments involving depth, such as a car being slowly hoisted onto the deck of the ship or Jack anxiously awaiting Rose at the bottom of a grand staircase amid a series of columns that seemingly jut out of the screen.
Cameron said that DiCaprio and Winslet have yet to see the 3-D footage of "Titanic," but he has spoken with Winslet about the project, and she is "on board." He hasn't talked to DiCaprio about the rerelease because he's been busy shooting "The Great Gatsby" in Australia but he hopes to reconnect with the "J. Edgar" star soon.
"We'd love to have them involved to the extent that I think people are curious about what their journey has been since 'Titanic,'" Cameron said. "I think 'Titanic' cast a very long shadow over the careers of two extremely brilliant young actors who had to spend a lot of time kinda reminding people they weren't Jack and Rose over the next few years."
Cameron said that it will take 300 artists 60 weeks at a cost of $18 million to create the 3-D version of "Titanic," which won't include any new material. Landau noted that the film will also be rereleased in 2-D and that the "2-D is going to be a better print than anything we could have done at the time" because they have since created a "digital master" of the film.
Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox are set to rerelease "Titanic" on April 6, 2012, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Titanic setting sail on April 10, 1912. After it debuted in 1997, "Titanic" won 11 Academy Awards and grossed more than $1.8 billion worldwide, second only to Cameron's "Avatar," which was filmed in 3-D and released in 2009.

Its Autobots vs. Decepticons time again!! Get ready to meet all your favourite Autobots, Decepticons and many other new characters, along with Sam Witwicky, Seymour Simmons, Major Lennox and the rest. In this latest instalment of the Transformers series, we have the Autobots learning about a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the dark side of the Moon. The Autobots and the Decepticons are on a race to get to the spacecraft, and take possession of what's inside. The Autobots identify the spacecraft as the Ark, which was piloted by the great Sentinel Prime, mentor of Optimus Prime.

The landing of Apollo 11 on the moon is seamlessly woven into this story, and it shows that President Kennedy pushed NASA to ensure that it was the Americans who were the first to land on the moon, to beat the Russians in finding out what the unidentified object on the moon was. The Autobots, working with the NEST team, help in identifying and taking out an illegal Middle-Eastern nuclear plant. It is now that Optimus Prime stumbles upon a fuel cell, and upon questioning Charlotte Mearing (Frances McDormand), gets to know about Apollo 11 and the details of the mission. Wanting to investigate it further, Optimus and Ratchet take a ship to the moon, and closely inspect the Ark. Here, they find a weakened Sentinel Prime and five metal pillars.

Sam Witwicky has graduated from college, and has won a Presidential medal of honour, but all these are not enough to land him a job. The only job that he lands is that of a mail room employee at a technology firm run by an eccentric Bruce Bezos (John Malkovich). Sam is now residing in Washington D.C. With his new girlfriend Carly Spencer (Rosie Huntington-Whitley), who works for a car collector boss Dylan Gould (Patrick Dempsey). Dylan is constantly hitting on Carly, gives her expensive gifts, and invites her to parties at his place. Sam is accosted by his co-worker Jerry Wang (Ken Jeong), who gives him a lot of papers and clippings that talk about the dark side of the moon, before jumping out of his office window to his death.

Meanwhile, Optimus and Ratchet resurrect Sentinel with the Matrix of Leadership, and investigations into the mystery of the metal pillars begin. Sam gets involved in the investigations against Carly's wishes, as she has already lost her brother to a war involving the Transformers. Sam enlists the help of now retired Seymour Simmons, and they discover the secret behind the pillars and the reason for Sentinel being left behind. This starts a chain reaction of events, wherein Sentinel turns rogue, destroys half of Chicago, and creates a spacebridge with the pillars to bring Cybertron near the Earth's atmosphere, resurrect it with resources from Earth using humans as slaves. The Autobots learn that Sentinel had earlier entered into a deal with Megatron and is hence on the side of the Decepticons.

The Autobots are led to be exiled from Earth. The spacecraft that they leave in is ambushed and gunned down by Starscream, leading to people thinking that Optimus and all the Autobots are dead. Meanwhile Carly is taken prisoner, the Decepticons are taking over the country and running amok. Will Sam be able to save the day once again? What happened to the Autobots? Will Earth's resources be stripped off? Will all humans end up being slaves? Watch the movie to know the rest!

The action sequences, the realistic special effects and the 3D effects are gripping. The director has ensured that a lot of commercial elements are thrown in to keep the viewers engrossed in the movie from beginning to end. Though logic may be missing at some points and the storyline might seem a little weak, the other aspects more than compensate. Michael Bay has ensured that he has come up with another winner in the Transformers franchise! Head over to a theatre near you to catch all the action in 3D, and have an action packed ride with the Transformers!

HOLLY WOOD MOVIE Johnny English Reborn

Reheated, anyway. Rowan Atkinson's Clouseau-Bond spoof is given another go-around, a very broad comedy turn that, like his Mr Bean character, is designed to do well in foreign markets and territories. Atkinson is the notoriously incompetent agent Johnny English, who for years has been living in a Tibetan monastery, achieving comedy transcendental enlightenment and zen acceptance of his career catastrophe since messing up a job in Mozambique. But spy chief Pamela Thornton (Gillian Anderson) brings him in from the cold for a special mission, tackling a dastardly international conspiracy to assassinate the Chinese premier. English finds himself in contact with CIA man Titus Fisher (Richard Schiff), breezy Brit spy Simon Ambrose (Dominic West) and beautiful special agent Kate Sumner, played dead-straight by Rosamund Pike . Many of the gags are good, and it goes out on a head-banging high note. But some ideas are undeveloped, such as the voice-controlled Rolls-Royce that can follow its owner around on command. And some bits, particularly Johnny English zooming around the London streets in a souped-up wheelchair, are just slapstick for the sake of it. This goes for a special poison drug that causes the victim to go into a "manic" phase – the excuse for some random, rubbery physical comedy from the man himself. One day we'll see a film that really harnesses Atkinson's mighty talent. This isn't it.
  • Johnny English Reborn

  • Cert (UK): PG

  • Runtime: 101 mins

Trawick, plays a bad boy who Spears falls for after he saves her from her abusive boyfriend. The relationship soon heats up and the pair treat fans to a steamy scene. According to Piliero, the idea was all Britney's. "When she first hit me up, she had a basic story in mind, and she actually always originally planned to have Jason, her boyfriend, play the role, and I wasn't super stoked on that idea at first, actually," he told MTV News.

Piliero also worked with Spears on her video for "I Wanna Go," and he was once again dazzled by her sassy acting skills. "Of course, Britney was rad," he said. "She does a good job at nailing and doing the little acting thing. She's cool at it."

Cowboys and Aliens – Movie Review

Iron Man fame Jon Favreau is back with his latest venture Cowboys and Aliens. The Hollywood director has nicely blended the two genres like Western and Alien/Sci-Fi genres in the movie. It has two treats in one for this summer and Daniel Craig is the showman.

Cowboys and Aliens is an action-packed movie and the chemistry among Wilde, Craig and Ford is the major attraction of the film. The solid 3-D effects, smooth-flowing script written by nine writers and fantastic stunts are its other highlights. Its underderlying theme is that although the inhabitants of Earth may have our inter-species differences, we will come together when presented with a common threat.

In 1873, a spaceship arrives in Arizona for an unknown purpose. Stranger outlaw (Daniel Craig) wakes up in the desert with no memory and saunters onto Main Street. He meets cranky cattle barron Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) and his bully son (Paul Dano). The stranger discovers that he is a wanted thief named Lonergan when thar lights arrive in the sky. Then he rounds up a team of Doc (Sam Rockwell), Meachum the preacher (Clancy Brown), Native American Nat (Adam Beach) and beautiful Ella (Olivia Wilde) to stave off the invading force in an old-time Wild West standoff.

As expected, Daniel Craig has shown great presence on screen. Harrison Ford and Craig suit up for the cowboys and their chemistry really works well. Olivia Wilde looks good in their company. Paul Dano, Sam Rockwell, Clancy Brown, Adam Beach and others have done a good job in their respective roles.

In technical front, the 3-D effects are solid throughout the film. The dilemma of killing fast-moving aliens with light weaponry is put front and center. The movie has a fair amount of strong one-liner jokes. Harry Gregson-Williams' music, Matthew Libatique's cinematography and Dan Lebental's editing are also praise worthy. Overall, Cowboys and Aliens is a must watch movie for this summer.

Producer: Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof, Roberto Orci

    Director: Jon Favreau

Cast: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Paul Dano, Sam Rockwell, Clancy Brown, Adam Beach

    Music: Harry Gregson-Williams

    Cinematography: Matthew Libatique

Scarlett Johansson is too sexy for Dragon Tattoo

Scarlett Johansson might be one of the most sought after actress but it did not help her to fetch the female lead role in Davin Fincher's forthcoming movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011). Well, her sex appeal among her fans is the reason behind it.

Director David Fincher believes that Scarlett Johansson is a great actress but she is too sexy for the role of Lisbeth Salander in the forthcoming Hollywood movie. Speaking to the Vogue magazine, he said, “Look, we saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I'm telling you. But the thing that with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off.”

The filmmaker explains that his leading lady should look like 'E.T' dolls, which should give the audience the feel of lovability and strangeness. He felt that Rooney Mara has that quality and she could do the justice for the character.

However, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo also features Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright Penn, Stellan Skarsgard and others in the cast. The movie will hit the US theatres on December 21.

Leonardo Di Caprio sandwiched between Shahrukh Khan-Amitabh Bachchan?

Hollywood actor Leonardo Di Caprio is facing a real tough time in allotting dates for Shahrukh Khan's dream project, Xtreme City that would be co-produced by legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese.

A source revealed to Mid Day that the dates of Shahrukh, Scorsese and even writer Paul Schrader's have almost been sorted out. But, the real problem they are currently facing is Leonardo Di Caprio, whose dates are still not confirmed.

Leonardo Di Caprio is busy filming The Great Gatsby (which is incidentally Amitabh Bachchan's first Hollywood project) at this point and nothing really can be finalised unless his dates are confirmed.
